Vulcan's business philosophy is to joint venture or option out properties where partners can provide the necessary capital to advance exploration. This is particularly beneficial when sluggish capital markets undervalue the company's share price and make equity financings unreasonably dilutive on existing shareholders. However, the company is also willing to pursue exceptional opportunities on its own behalf at the early stages of exploration such as the onshore western Newfoundland oil play. Strategic investment in advancing exploration at the early stages can result in much more lucrative joint ventures and partnering down the road.
