Ottawa is committing more than $9 million over the next decade to help fund a Digby County wind farm.
West Nova MP Greg Kerr announced funding Sunday for the Digby Neck Wind Farm, which has 20 turbines.
The $9.2 million comes from the federal ecoENERGY for Renewable Power program and is part of a series of investments in green energy projects totalling $63.8 million that have been announced across the country.
"Investing in clean energy technologies stimulates the growth of a domestic clean energy industry, creating high-quality jobs for Canadians," Kerr said in a news release.
The Digby Neck turbines are capable of producing enough emission-free electricity to power more than 10,000 homes.
"Nova Scotia Power is committed to replacing fossil fuel generation with renewable sources; ecoENERGY is helping to lower the cost of that change to customers," said Robin McAdam, Nova Scotia Power’s executive vice-president of sustainability.
Funding clean energy projects is part of Ottawa’s commitment to reduce Canada’s 2005 greenhouse gas emissions by 17 per cent by 2020, the release said.
