If you do the math he sold enough shares to pay fro them and pay the tax on the gain he had. I think he had 150,000 options at .60 and sold them in the $1.15 range. After all was said and done he added 25,000 shares to his holdings.

Now Tesla may still not be the one who steps up but the sale of the shares has no barring on this.
