I have the Scotia Itrade account I mentioned and have been able to place online orders. I never did try to place an order through a trader at TD.  Expensive as you note.  And I also found I needed to frequently change my buy price so Itrade online worked well. I sometimes got filled for as few as 200 shares in a day so $50 per trade would have been painful.
