Fuel Efficient and Clean Emissions
Haworth’s
GREEN
Machine
Haworth has green trucks. No, not the color
green — green as in good for the environment.
Now, we’ve all been behind a Freightliner or a
Peterbilt on the road somewhere. How could
a big ol’ diesel semi truck be part of the green
scene? Well, when Alan Bishop of Equity
Transportation said, “Drive it and we’ll prove it,”
we took him up on it.
Yeah, breaker, breaker, one-nine, we’re runnin’
a 2008 Freightliner Glider Kit with a Detroit
Diesel Series 60 Recon Engine, 470 HP, using
an Eaton Recon Transmission, with Dynamic
Fuel System Jet Star Hydrogen Generator for
enhanced combustion. Yeah, this baby meets
California 2020 Emission Standards, uses Mobil
One Synthetic Oil, and runs on Super Singles
Tires filled with Nitrogen, getting more than
33% better mpg than your average semi, with
525 HP to the ground …
UH, WHAT?
Bottom line: the truck causes fewer emissions,
gets more miles per gallon, needs less maintenance,
and is less expensive than a 2008 factory
tractor. And that means green. In fact, based
on the average number of miles traveled by the
Haworth fleet, we stand to consume 20,000
fewer gallons of diesel fuel than we did just
one year ago. With the rising cost of fuel these
days, that amounts to almost $100,000 in fuel
savings alone.
Some of the key words here are recon, as in
reconstructed, remanufactured, or recycled;
hydrogen generator, which separately shoots
hydrogen and oxygen into the ignition so it
burns hotter and faster, leaving no unburned
fuel, less particulate matter, and results in
cooler exhaust temperatures with no burning
fuel going out of the exhaust system; California
2020 Emissions Standards, as in we’re already
meeting (and even exceeding) the toughest
emissions standards in the country that are set
for the year 2020 (!wow!); synthetic oil, which
results in extended oil change intervals and;
nitrogen, which extends tire life by 25%.
We could go on and on about this new initiative,
and are working to make information and
documentation available. For now, what we’d
like you to know is that our commitment to
sustainability is literally driving us to test this
new technology! It is very forward thinking —
especially with rising fuel prices — and we’re
one of the few companies who are taking this
approach to sustaining the environment while
helping our own bottom line in the rather
expensive business of shipping our products.
It’s all about running cleaner and still getting
the job done well. We’re doing it and we’re
excited about it!
