Bluebox Expands into the Handheld Arena
Phantom Media’s bluebox embedded system is now available as a stand alone handheld unit incorporating many features of the original system. Screen size comes in at the standard 8.4`` alongside the 15`` and 17`` variants for the fixed system - the handheld version will still incorporate wifi capability, has an ultra bright touch screen and can be fitted with up to 100G of storage space. An additional benefit for aircraft fitted with a LAN – perhaps for mobile phone use – is that for the first time all handheld units can be controlled centrally, such as pausing them to deliver safety announcements.
Rick Stuart, MD noted ``we now have a complete vertically integrated system that can easilly move from an initial handheld purchase to a fully controlable fixed system, with minimal extra cost, enabling airlines to reduce the TCO and avoid obsolesence when considering an IFE system``
Phantom also announced the launch of a much smaller unit, `bluebox lite`, which is aimed at airlines operating smaller aircraft types where space is at a premium. The unit has a 7``, high resoultion screen, up to 80G of content storage and is fully DRM compliant and as a first for the handheld market place offers full 3D PC gaming.
Business Development Manager, Michael Earley, said “our new product lines bring the power and performance of the bluebox system into the hand-held world, offering an unbeatable blend of low cost with larger content capacity and superior performance. In essence they deliver some of the best aspects of a full size seatback system into a hand held solution, so your customers never have to settle for second best.”
The complete bluebox product range will be showcased at the WAEA in Miami in September. For more information drop by to see us on Stand 212 or visit our website www.phantommedia.net to register for further details or set up an appointment in our London office.
