Message: Mezzo & eVU

Based on this statement from the article:

"Branded the “Mezzo Player,” the handheld unit now being offered in limited numbers on selected Jet2 medium-haul flights is in fact the eVU from e.Digital."

I did a little searching around the Jet2 site. They've got 31 planes - some for short hops, some for medium, some for long haul, some for freight only. That's the depth of info we have to work with.

My SWAG is based on the assumption that many (if not most) aircraft are dedicated to short hops around the UK, a few to long hauls, and a few to freight. So shooting rather high, there may be as many as 15 planes doing medium length flights. Also shooting high, there may be as many as 30 eVUs per flight (though this number may be high due to the word "limited").

15 X 30 = 450

It is unknown as to what quantity may be needed these days to account for refresh time. Used to be 50%, but advances may have decreased this number, or eliminated it.

In any case, 450 units may be a generous number. So My SWAG is that the total quantity involved here is somewhere between 200 and 600 based on what I think I KNOW.

I could go into further depth re: the possible business model in play with Mezzo, but assuming these were simple sales with a 20% margin, we're talking a profit of around $200 per unit, IMO.

$200 X 200 = $40,000

$200 X 600 = $120,000

However, we've got the $1M number from EDIG, suggesting a possible 1,000 units at a grand each.

$200 X 1,000 = $200K

More impressive, but still probably doesn't cover EDIG's monthly burn rate.

But they gotta start somewhere, and this may have put our foot in the door.

And I KNOW nuttin'!
