January 21, 2007 – AS Silverjet gears up for service launch this Thursday, handheld IFE provider Mezzo Movies has revealed details of what it will be offering aboard the Luton-based premium-only carrier’s all-silver 767s (Inflight Online, January 9).
To be branded “Silver Screen powered by mezzo.aero,” the service will comprise a selection of audio/video-on-demand content delivered to players understood to have been supplied by e.Digital of California. Films will include the month’s Hollywood blockbusters and a selection of classic titles. Also on offer will be 24 hours of US and UK comedies and dramas, documentaries, sport and music videos; an audio library of over 100 rock, pop, dance, urban, jazz, classical and greatest hits CDs; and airport information, talking books and games.
The graphical user interface on the handhelds will reflect the Silverjet brand identity, and each player, along with a noise-reduction headset, will be delivered to each seat by the cabin crew.
London-based Mezzo is supplying the airline with a fully managed service which includes the provision and management of all hardware, licensing, content, daily onboard operations, crew and customer communications, and back-office support. “Silverjet has outsourced the entire management of what is a complex operation to us, secure in the knowledge that we will assure the very best passenger experience on every flight,” says Mezzo spokesman Martin Cunnison.
Mezzo was established in 2004 by three former executives of supermarket giant Tesco to bring proven retail best practice to inflight entertainment.
