"As for settlements, my guess is EDIG via DM will go for the one time payment in the short and near term, should there be licenses to grant. it is much cleaner for DM and it may promote the licensee to assist with future castration of other (competitive) mean ole copy cats."
In the short term sounds great for share holders.
IMO...This is a really tough call for the leaders of the company, they need to leave something for their successors. Whatever model they choose, be it reoccurring or one time....they'll have to do it for all infringement...I understand that there is a time line to the Patents to consider.
I guess for which ever method, contenders will be allowed to implement in any way they see fit .....and I'm not talking about the MOS.
FWIW.....
For the embedded future, I see the elimination of typical PCB's with component structures being tied through RF/RFI/IR. This will be done with identified persistent configuration.
Their IP, IMO... would allow for such a thing.
I wonder if they're reading this?......lol
Perhaps large cash infusions would push this company to where I feel it could go. They're first in their field with a predefined OS(where others would have to create their own, or license the MOS application) putting them ahead of the game.
At that point they would have to patent every firmware application they come up with.
Once they start....they're in a race competing against their own IP.
One time license handicap? We better start with the low hanging fruit first....lol....As the high fruiters have their ducks already in a row....they're just sitting waiting to un leash....lol
