and for the most part...IMO...it`s a serendipitous achievement....not the editing feature that was deliberate.....but utilizing the structure within standard allocation schemes... for purposes of individual stand alone file storage...or as collective groups of file storage partitions for a single objective....
you could analogize it to having individual harddisk drives or partitions...where each partition is directed off a main allocation table....I`ll name it (MFS)Monster Folder Structure.......files can then be as deep as you like with out the overhead burden on the allocation table....drill down into each folder..or partition if you like....for the file you seek.
Every thing they devised and patented was for considerations of space on solid state media....however, they have marched this forward into other media.
