Midwest Airlines to Offer Onboard Video Entertainment on Longer Flights
MILWAUKEE, Feb 17, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Passengers on longer Midwest Airlines flights will soon have the option of renting handheld video entertainment units that play movies, television programs, music videos and audio music selections. Called a digEplayer(TM), the units will be available by early April on all Midwest Airlines Saver Service flights and select Signature Service flights of more than two and a half hours in duration.
Unlike traditional inflight entertainment systems, the digEplayer allows customers to choose what they want to listen to or watch from a large assortment of video and audio entertainment options. The unit, which can hold up to 30 movie titles, is about the same size as a DVD player, but offers superior video and audio quality and a longer-life battery that lasts up to 10 hours. The digEplayers will be pre-loaded with full-length movies, including some very recent titles that have yet to be released on video, plus 30- and 60-minute television shows and a broad range of music video and audio selections ranging from rock to classical. Offerings will be updated every 60 days. The DigEplayer will rent for $10; a second set of headphones with a splitter is available for an additional $2, allowing passengers in adjoining seats to share the unit.
``We`re pleased to offer our passengers the state-of-the-art digEplayer to entertain them on longer flights,`` said Timothy E. Hoeksema, chairman and chief executive officer. ``Parents traveling with children will find the device is a great diversion, while adults will enjoy the opportunity to relax and watch current movies. And since content is regularly updated, even frequent flyers will find plenty of variety.``
