Midwest Airlines joins the digEplayer club

Feb 18, 2005 - IGNORING the cries of distress from revenue-mad European low-cost Ryanair, Midwest Airlines of the USA is to offer the APS/Wencor digEplayer handheld IFE system on its longer flights.

Flying McDonnell Douglas MD-80s and Boeing 717s, Milwaukee-based Midwest offers low-fare services to leisure destinations such as Denver, Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orlando, Phoenix and Tampa, and premium-class Signature Service flights on these and other routes. It is supported by regional subsidiary Midwest Connect, operating Fairchild 328JET regional jets and Beech 1900D turboprops.

digEplayers will be available by early April on all Midwest low-fare flights and on select Signature Service flights of more than two and a half hours’ duration. The units will be loaded with full-length films, including some very recent titles that have yet to be released on video, plus 30 and 60-minute television shows and a range of music video and audio. Content will be updated every 60 days.

Rental charge will be $10, with a second set of headphones and a splitter unit available for another $2 to allow sharing.
