in most states, I'm pretty sure that even if you didn't know you were receiving stolen property, you are still criminally liable.

Not that I would suggest DM or EDIG pursue this idea... but even if the subsequent company unknowingly received benefit, they should be at least required to pay... not necesarily be held criminally liable is what I mean to infer...
