Delta Beta Lowers the Cost of Aircraft Communications

February 28, 2005 - Palo Alto, CA – Delta Beta has set a new standard in inflight communications for airline passengers through the integration of its Series 9000 IFE system with the Sagem Avionics RCOM-100 satellite transceiver. Now airline passengers can send email and SMS messages without the need for laptop computers and they can do so at much reduced costs.

In addition to choosing from hundreds of hours of movies and audio entertainment on the Series 9000 IFE system, passengers can now stay in touch with their home, office and colleagues around the world. The Series 9000 in-seat display monitors provide a WWW (World Wide Web) Internet browser and an email composition screen. Passengers simply type their message directly on their entertainment monitor. This means they don’t need to bother with opening up and connecting a laptop computer. One of the benefits of Delta Beta’s unique solution to passenger communications is that the service is available for all passengers; not just those with laptops.

The Series 9000’s efficient use of bandwidth means it is possible for hundreds of passengers on an aircraft to each send multiple SMS messages and text-only emails during a typical flight from anywhere in the world. Delta Beta’s IFE systems and the RCOM-100 are compact and light-weight making them ideal for regional and single-aisle aircraft or for wide-body operators that want to avoid the weight, aerodynamic drag and maintenance burdens often associated with satellite systems. In accord with Delta Beta’s philosophy of striving for the ultimate in reliability and low maintenance, the RCOM-100’s antenna is very small at about the size of a deck of cards and has no moving parts.

Airlines can contact Delta Beta to arrange a demonstration of the Series 9000’s passenger communications capabilities and to explore how these capabilities can be used to generate additional revenues. Delta Beta In-Flight, Incorporated is based in the heart of Silicon Valley in Palo Alto, California where it develops and produces IFF systems for all aircraft sizes from regional jets through wide-bodied aircraft.
