WASHINGTON, Dec 6 (Reuters) - The International Trade Commission has agreed to investigate possible infringement of patents owned by SanDisk (SNDK.O: Quote, Profile, Research), the ITC said on Thursday.
SanDisk had requested the investigation into infringement of patents used in semiconductor chips that manage the operation of flash memories used in memory cards, media players and other products.
SanDisk won an investigation into 47 companies, including LG Electronics (066570.KS: Quote, Profile, Research) of Korea, Imation Corp (IMN.N: Quote, Profile, Research), Kingston Technology Co, PNY Technologies Inc, Power Quotient (6145.TW: Quote, Profile, Research), Acer Inc (2353.TW: Quote, Profile, Research) of Taiwan, Buffalo Inc of Japan and Dane Elec Memory SA (DEMY.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) of France.
The commission is a favored venue for patent infringement suits because it can stop the importation of products made with infringed patents. (Reporting by Diane Bartz; editing by John Wallace)
