At the time... 

The API had the ability to 1. implement  the standardized form factor of (NOR)Compactflash with their license environment, 2.  raw flash of either NOR or NAND, 3. hard drives, 4. and emerging form factors.

A lot has changed since that press release. I'm sure they will license their environment to any standardized form factor.
