Ask either one: ``Which direction would your friend say takes me to the promise land?``
And then do the opposite.
Let`s assume the ``left`` takes you to the promise land, and ``right`` takes you to hell.
If you ask the truth teller:
He honestly says that his friend will say ``right``.
So you go left.
If you ask the non-truth teller:
He lies and says that his friend will say ``right``.
So you go left.
No matter who you ask, you have the info to make the correct decision.
