Think of it this way....

You can have a 75 watt light bulb delivering a specific consumption and candle power.

Or you can have a 45 watt bulb at a lesser consumption with a candle power equal the 75 watt bulb.

In e.Digitals case, the bulb represents the firmware and the Mediadata/essence within the bit stream is the candle power.
