Titan Airways chooses Mezzo handhelds

February 21, 2008 – BRITISH corporate and VIP charter operator Titan Airways is to offer the Mezzo turnkey IFE service on seven of its aircraft - three Boeing 737-300QCs, three BAe 146-200QCs and a Beechcraft King Air B200.

From the beginning of next month, the London Stansted-based carrier will carry stocks of handhelds loaded with a content package comprising three films, television programmes and five channels of music. The eVU portable units are supplied to London-headquartered Mezzo by e.Digital of California.

“I experienced Mezzo’s service when I flew with Silverjet and was extremely impressed with the exciting content package,” comments Titan managing director Gene Willson. “We needed a much more flexible service than a scheduled airline, however, and Mezzo has created exactly the right service and content package for us.”

The Mezzo service will debut on the 737s in May. Titan is refitting the three aircraft with a cabin featuring 44 leather business-class seats four-abreast in place of the original 130 seats at 33in pitch. Eight of the seats will be located in two club-style arrangements, each with its own convertible work/dining table, at the front of the cabin.

A fixed divider will separate this area from the rest of the cabin, which will have 36 seats at 62in pitch. Each reclining seat will have a movable headrest and footrest, and in-seat power for laptops and other personal devices. The handheld service will be offered to every passenger.

Besides Titan, the Mezzo customer list comprises TUI Group charter carriers Arkefly of the Netherlands, Jetairfly (Belgium) and Thomsonfly (UK), British low-cost carriers Flyglobespan and Jet2.com, charter operator XL Airways and transatlantic premium-only specialist Silverjet.
