We have been keeping an eye on the portable IFE market for some years now. Our original story on the Digeplayer and "Wild Bill" broke new ground in the IFE world. Jump forward to 2008 and we have up to 10 players and wannabe's in the Inflight Entertainment space - including AIRVOD. For the last few years we have seen them at various IFE shows and conferences but have been waiting for a "full court press" from their folks to give them a bit of space and it looks like it finally has arrived. Here is the latest missive from Prez, Terence Bonar:

Sales Update

AIRVOD have kept below the radar but started delivering players in Q3 2007 and have already delivered 3000 units with a growing order book. We started a program with Tiger Airways in Singapore in May and then completed a fleet wide deployment for Jetstar in Australia (Qantas low fares airline) replacing the first generation system previously used by the airline."

"Jetstar now offers the AIRVOD player on domestic and long haul flights. AIRVOD manages an entire end-to-end program offering Jetstar the very best content packages in multiple languages and complete ground support. We have also introduced our system in November onboard Privat Air in Geneva. The AIRVOD player was used by members of the royal family and the British prime minister during recent trips onboard with Privat. We have a number of trials underway at the moment and 2008 is already looking very good. The portable IFE market continues to develop rapidly as airlines are seeing the cost benefit of introducing portable players. The AIRVOD portable player reduces complexity and increases the airlines product offering and increases the passenger’s experience. AIRVOD have focused on an entire end-to end service delivery solution. We are confident that we will continue to gain market share this year and our results for 2007 would indicate that AIRVOD is quickly establishing itself as the leading portable IFE supplier."

Second Thoughts - Aircraft Interiors Update - "ARINC will be displaying its new Oi (Onboard Internet) system at Hamburg. Oi is set to revolutionize the skies with its fully customizable web portal which enables passengers to surf the internet, use email/instant messenger and keep up with the latest news and sports flashes. Oi is accessed from passengers’ own personal laptops, without the need to install any new software. Oi software can be hosted on any aircraft server and run over the existing wired or wireless architecture. ARINC offers communication solutions over the Inflight Entertainment System and passengers own personal devices, through its joint venture AeroMobileSM". (Yes, we borrowed it from AI!)
