Mezzo, Portable IFE Specialist announced today that they would be launching a unique Portable IFE System at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg between April 1st and 3rd 2008. - (Why are they launching a system if they already have one?) -(LL)
Let me know if there is another system / product that has this feature:
"20+ hours of high resolution continuous video playback on a single battery charge".
Such a system means that the player does not need a designated electrical bus (or circuit) in the aircraft system to be installed for the purpose of recharging eVUs in flight for those long 16+ hour KJFK-RJTT flights.. all the eVUs needed for the flight can be charged at the airport before flight. I posted a few months ago the fact that a IFE system is not something can can just be installed overnight- there are many factors involved in getting the appropriate regulatory certifications for the product if installed as part of the aircraft. Air France, in using EDIG's eVU system has already provided the eVU with a certification process that has met ICAO (and I'd bet EASA) standards, of which the FAA is a member organization of the ICAO.
Again, it sounds to me like the eVU is UNIQUE in this respect.
"New hardware - could be edig, might not be"
Agreed. We'll see. But again, unique can easily refer to a feature the eVU has that no one else has. Otherwise, it's no longer unique. And if there is another system out there, it's doubtful that it's a brand-new untested and never certified system that Mezzo is going to reveal in a large show.
