I take that back.....some what....you could utilize what is/was called battery backed RAM. This is what Palm and others based their beginning technology on,  as flash was just starting. It took a constant power source to maintain data....when the battery went dead you had to reprogram.

It was not considered to be an SSD environment.

non-volatile today, means non-volatile....no power source necessary to maintain data.
