Defense strategy

I may have brought this up before but I don't recall a response. I'd appreciate one, especially from the lawyers here.
How important is precedent in these types of cases? This may be a simplistic example but, if EDIG wins its first case, will that have any effect on the succeeding cases? If the first case is lost, would it influence the others as well? I suspect each case will have its own unique set of circumstances which may set it apart from the others but there will probably be similar elements as well. That leads me to another question.
Is it likely that all the current defendants will somehow join forces to present a united front against EDIG or would they prefer to go at it alone? Are the circumstances so unique as to dictate individual actions?
The thing that concerns me most is the question of precedent. How could EDIG overcome an early loss and hope to win succeeding cases?
