BALTIMORE, June 13, 2008 - Duane Morris LLP welcomes P. Terrence Gaffney, formerly the managing director of the Gaffney Group LLC, as a partner in its Baltimore office. Gaffney joins Duane Morris' Intellectual Property Practice Group, which continues to grow steadily, adding 18 attorneys in eight offices firmwide since September 2007. The IP practice now consists of more than 80 lawyers practicing in all aspects of patent, trademark and copyright law.
Gaffney is the third partner to join the 11-lawyer Baltimore office year-to-date. The firm's Baltimore office has experienced steady growth since its inception in December 2006. The founding team, which consisted of lawyers from the Baltimore office of DLA Piper, focuses on corporate, securities law, mergers and acquisitions, complex financial transactions and international transactions, and has recorded more than $1 billion worth of deals since the office opened.
Gaffney focuses his practice on FDA regulatory matters, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and dietary supplement products liability defense and intellectual property litigation. He regularly handles matters involving licensing, OIG compliance, clinical trial development, direct-to-consumer issues, general transactional matters, marketing and sales issues, distribution and supply, and technology transfer. He has extensive experience in epidemiology and characteristics of chemical structure and is familiar with all aspects of the FDA regulation process. He has worked with clients to reduce the time and expense of clinical trial requirements for new drug approvals and has represented clients in state and federal courts as well as before the FDA, Congress and the Department of Health and Human Services. Gaffney is a member of several organizations focusing on intellectual property, technology transfer and drug development and regulation and regularly speaks on pharmaceutical law and litigation.
Admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Maryland, North Carolina and Ohio, Gaffney earned his J.D. from Cleveland State University and his B.A. from John Carroll University.
