Gil I know you from your postings. I know you travel a lot and enjoy life. Great for you. That is part of the American dream...a dream that leftist's, commies, and many so called environmentalists" HATE and want to end.
Many of the people on the environmental left really are not that concerned about oil, gas prices, air quality suv's, trees etc. The bottom line is they want to take down the USA and our way of life including our standard of life. They abhor much of what we are and what we do. To them we are the enemy. They wanted us to sign Kyoto but leave China and India out. Why is that? Have you seen the pollution in China and the efforts they are making just to cover it up for the Olympics? Do you realize how much pollution in California comes from China? You realize that China will be/is drilling off the Florida coast, but we can't...as if Chinas oil derricks are better looking or less polluting then US oil derricks? LOL They want us to be more enlightened like Europe but look in shock when nuke power is mentioned even though their beloved France gets 70% of it's electrical power from nukes. The silliness of their so called arguments are indeed laughable..and predictable.
BTW Gil ..Where are these magical new sources of energy or devices? How long must we as a nation and we as a people be under the thumb of foreign oil? You are correct to say we have not done enough in the past to be more energy conserving. The CAFE standards should have been raised as a simple start. That does not change the place that we are TODAY. The facts of today reveal we must conserve, invent and innovate new ways to use and supply energy. It also means we must do so in a manner that reinforces personal and national security. To sit idly by and hope that a miracle will happen is naive at best. If and when new sources are found, we remove the oil well, pipelines and shut down the nuke reactors. If you are so confident that these new sources will magically appear "soon" you should be in favor of my views.
As I mentioned earlier you enjoy life as you should. Trains, Planes, automobiles, wine, ski lifts and lodges use a lot of energy...all on some hobby or recreational activity. Hmmmm While you do not mind driving in a Corolla, how about not flying here or there? You rail against the SUV...How about giving up on your beloved wine which uses so much energy not only to grow and produce, but being shipped? I could go on and on about YOUR way of life Gil, but I won't. You see Gil I want you to enjoy life..the life you have worked hard for. the way of life you have earned by that hard work.
With conservation, innovation, cooperation and a realization of what faces us NOW, our visions of the future is probably not that far off.
