Another venue for Digeplayers?

Not just cruises - but budget cruises. No space for that installed big screen TV? Fine - just give each room a digeplayer and the entertainment problem is solved. Or better yet - pick up your dige on your EasyJet flight, and take it with you on your cruise. Just don`t get sand in the dige.

The Guardian reports today that Stelios has begun taking bookings for the first voyage of easyCruiseOne, which will commence cruising along the French and Italian Riviera, which stretches from St Tropez to Nice, Cannes, Monaco and Genoa, in May.

Stelios apparently intends to squeeze two single beds into cabins of just 10 square metres of the budget cruise line, and the starting price will be £29 a night.

When asked to comment on the fact that virtually everything on board is orange, Stelios did admit that there was a risk of overdoing the orange, but that he wanted to get EasyCruise`s logo into passengers` holiday snaps.

The Guardian continues that the ship, which carries 170 holidaymakers and 54 crew, is intended to appeal to ‘independently minded people’ in their 20s, 30s and 40s, who would never dream of going on a traditional cruise.

It adds that on-board facilities are minimal with no swimming pool, but that there will be a small spa bath on deck, and drinks and snacks will be available for purchase from a coffee shop, an American-style sports bar and a cocktail bar.

Evidently, Bill Gibbons, Director of the Passenger Shipping Association, welcomed the novel concept as a potential way to attract young travellers to the cruising world, which at present attracts customers with an average age of 54
