World Airline Entertainment Association (WAEA) To Host Record-Breaking Exhibition

McLEAN, Va., 28 July, 2008 – The World Airline Entertainment Association Annual Conference & Exhibition is the world’s largest display of inflight entertainment and communication products and services and this year’s 29th annual event 8-11 September in Long Beach, California, USA is bigger than any exhibition in recent history. Despite soaring oil prices and challenging economic conditions, 98 percent of the WAEA show floor is sold. Currently 138 companies will be showcasing the latest technology and IFE experiences in more than 4,700 square meters of exhibition space – the largest show in years – and WAEA leaders expect the show to sell out in the coming weeks.

The WAEA event is co-located this year with Aircraft Interiors Expo – Americas (AIX), featuring the world’s leading suppliers of concepts and equipment for aircraft interiors. The co-location offers WAEA Annual Conference & Exhibition attendees the opportunity to find total cabin solutions in one venue and entry into both exhibit halls is free for airlines and WAEA exhibitors. Registration details and complete pricing are available at the WAEA Web site, www.waea.org.

“While the number of companies exhibiting is about the same as previous shows,” says WAEA Executive Director Richard Owen, “there is a greater variety in the products and services being showcased and companies are taking more exhibit space than in years past. Our exhibitors are willing to invest in the WAEA exhibition as the most cost effective and efficient means of conducting business with virtually every IFE professional from around the globe. The event clearly is valuable to the IFE industry.”

This year, many companies are exhibiting for the first time in a variety of categories and will be featured in the New Vendor Showcase during the opening day of the conference. Each new exhibiting company will have an opportunity to briefly introduce their company, product or service and booth number to invite visitors to learn more about their business. The WAEA exhibition is an appointment-driven show in which airlines schedule meetings with vendors in advance and plan their visits with representatives before arriving at the show. An addition to this year’s exhibition, the Vendor Theater located inside the WAEA exhibit hall, features 10-minute presentations from exhibitors in a theater setting to allow those who may not have meetings scheduled with presenting companies the opportunity to learn more about their products and services. A complete listing of exhibitors is posted on the WAEA Web site at www.waea.org.

"Having access, under one roof, to the industry personnel and information that is possible through the WAEA expo has been essential to Pascall's growth over several years in the IFE market,” says Judith Hill, sales manager, North America region, for Pascall Electronics Limited. “The professional, friendly atmosphere is conducive to having the open discussions that we rely on to form the basis of our business strategy in order to meet the evolving demands of our customers. I believe we would not be where we are without it."

Event registration and sponsorship are higher than in recent years at this point before the show, and the number of exhibiting companies is the highest it’s been since 2002, according to WAEA Exhibits Manager Mimi Ruffing. “Hotels are filling up,” Owen says, “with the 8 August deadline to register for housing approaching and an impressive line up of speakers and panelists for the conference portion of the event have been secured. He notes that the southern California location, just a short distance from the IFE locales of Los Angeles and Orange County, also is a significant attraction for exhibitors and attendees who may want to extend their conference stay to allow for additional meetings while in the area.

The price is right for exhibitors and airlines as well. Entry into the WAEA Exhibit Hall is free for airlines and any WAEA exhibiting company. “It’s really a combination of everything that is driving the success of the event,” Owen says. “Long Beach is definitely the place to be in September for anyone involved in IFE. If you aren’t there, you can rest assured your competitor will be.”
