Another way to look at it.

I hate any increase in my tax, local, state, federal, world, etc.

However it's better to become more affluent and pay higher tax than to be poor and pay no tax.

Don't forget Congress would have to vote on any tax increases and they may not get re-elected after the people realize the shaft.
