This special report is a one-of-a-kind compilation of verdicts and settlements reached in key patent infringement cases from July 2006 to July 2007. Many of these cases involved multiple plaintiffs and defendants and involved patents relating to digital music, medical devices, operating system software, pharmaceuticals, and liquid crystal display technology. The 31 verdicts reported here represent 13 states and awarded damages as high as $1.5 billion. In most of the 43 settlements included, financial terms were kept confidential, but in the six where terms were disclosed the average settlement amount was $30.9 million.
