NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. & ATLANTA, Apr 18, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Conexant
Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CNXT), a worldwide leader in semiconductor solutions for
broadband communications, enterprise networks and the digital home, and TANDBERG
Television (OSE:TAT), a leading provider of video compression systems, today
announced that they have successfully completed MPEG-4 advanced video coding
(AVC)/H.264 interoperability tests. The joint tests verified interoperability
between Conexant`s CX2418X family of decoder integrated circuits and the
TANDBERG EN5990 MPEG-4 AVC high-definition (HD) real-time broadcast encoder. AVC
technology allows digital broadcast TV service providers to improve bandwidth
utilization, enabling the cost-effective delivery of a wider range of video,
voice, and data broadcast programming.
``Our tests with TANDBERG Television provide broadcasters with an additional
level of assurance that our respective products conform to industry standards
and work together seamlessly,`` said Jeff Crosby, vice president of Broadband
Media Processing for Conexant. ``TANDBERG Television`s expertise in encoding
technology is recognized by broadcasters and network operators worldwide. We
share their dedication to delivering standards-compliant solutions to the
broadcasting community, and are pleased to have worked with them on this
important endeavor.``
``In order to truly deliver on its promises, MPEG-4 AVC needs to go beyond the
codec and encoding box and be readily available in end-to-end systems that
enable broadcasters and operators to rollout next-generation networks,`` said
Matthew Goldman, vice president of Technology, Compression Systems, TANDBERG
Television Inc. ``By working with leading silicon vendors such as Conexant we are
able to rapidly bring complete open systems to market and drive the paradigm
shift from standard to high-definition, the first major picture quality
improvement since color TV.``
TANDBERG Television will be demonstrating the EN5990 broadcast encoder with
Conexant`s HDTV AVC reference decoder systems at the National Association of
Broadcasters trade show, which is being held this week in Las Vegas.
About the EN5990 Encoder
The TANDBERG EN5990 is the industry`s first HD advanced encoding system and is
already being deployed by broadcasters and operators around the world in trial
and full commercial roll-outs. The EN5990 is a robust professional encoding
solution, designed to operate in real-time TV delivery environments and
guarantees no frame dropping. Key features include extensive video
pre-processing for noise reduction and horizontal picture resolution resizing.
The encoder is based on the TANDBERG HD Intelligent Compression Engine (ICE), an
array of high-end, general purpose digital signal processors (DSPs) and field
programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).
About the CX2418X Family
The CX2418X is the world`s first HDTV decoder IC compliant with the MPEG-4
AVC/H.264 standard, also known as MPEG-4 Part 10. The CX2418X decoder family
implements the MPEG-4 AVC standard, including both main profile and high profile
up to level 4.0, with support for broadcast formats and resolutions up to 1920 x
1080. A standard-definition decoding version of the device is also available.
Conexant offers a comprehensive suite of digital set-top box components and
systems solutions for worldwide satellite, terrestrial and cable entertainment
broadcasting networks. The company`s products include silicon tuners, satellite
demodulators, MPEG audio and video decoders, broadband cable and DSL modems, and
