ExtremeFFS(TM) greatly accelerates SSD random write speeds and endurance.
"For SSDs to perform optimally in Windows Vista, and thus replicate or surpass the functionality of hard disk drives, a new flash management technology is needed to accelerate SSD write speed and endurance,"
"TrueFFS was incorporated into one previous version of Windows, as the PCMCIA FTL of choice for its performance, scalability and low overhead. When using an SSD under Windows Vista, the demands on the SSD require a large quantity of random writes, as opposed to sequential access. "The mismatch to block size is significant," said Heye."
"This operates on a page-based algorithm, which means there is no fixed coupling between physical and logical location. When a sector of data is written, the SSD puts it where it is most convenient and efficient."
This type of placement is what gives the longevity to flash. as they state..."The result is an improvement in random write performance - by up to 100 times - as well as in overall endurance."
"which means there is no fixed coupling between physical and logical location."
Want to take a stab at what that means?.... Read it a couple of times.
If we pull in enough dough....they may have to show/prove, how they move from FTL(coupling), to randomly making on the fly placements of data without directive structures.
For now it looks like a cheat.
Are they aware of e.Digitals off the cuff strategy mentioned at the Shareholders meeting? Perhaps they feel they can stretch it out and not worry....seeing e.Digital mentioned a lengthy short stroke strategy.
The same test can happen on an SSD that is preformed on removable modules. They will fail that test.
If LG are not in heavy, they're stupid. With that, as we recently read....LG is not affraid to corner a market. In this particular case, there is NO MARKET yet for price structure. It's a free game for a while.
