Actually that makes more sense to me... that's it's the other way around.

DM to EDIG (handing them a check): "Here are the proceeds from the settlement with LG less our expenses and contingent fee per our agreement." LG might pay DM directly, no?

The nice roundness of the amount bothers me though. Perhaps DM pads its expenses so that they are also nice round numbers.... or maybe EDIG reimburses DM out of operating expenses - so that both parties would cut a check?
