The term "employment at will" has been used by companies for many years in an attempt to protect themselves when they want to let someone go and "hope" to avoid litigation (not entirely successful). It means the company can let the employee go "without any reason" whatsoever. I could be wrong but I believe the key word terminated in the statement statement "...terminated for any reason other than cause..." indicates action taken by the company. Maybe one of our legal gurus can chime in.
