You`re missing the point.....the points you make of speed for rotational media compared to flash are true....and that is a problem that the OS must compensate for....for what ever system utilized.
Not considering contiguous storage...
The back bone segment structures that are inode/index driven consist of two non-contiguous types...one being utilized by MSFT...the other by Unix types.
MSFT is half virtual half physical...the FAT is virtual while the collections of link lists (managed by the FAT) creating the files are physical...information of data segment to segment physically tie.
While in Unix...it`s all virtual....information ties nothing together...
There both utilized in HDD with different addressing schemes....they both can store random.....or tight.
The methods utilized to traverse the tables were not a consideration in the posts I made...
