WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--New federal funding to speed the use of information
technology in the health care industry should reduce wasteful spending and
produce savings that could help fund comprehensive U.S. health care reform,
some health executives predict. Congress included the technology funding in
a $787 billion economic stimulus plan signed into law this week by President
Barack Obama. It will provide $19 billion to accelerate the use of
computerized medical records and information sharing, requiring the federal
government to issue technical standards by the end of the year, and then using
a carrot-and-stick approach to spur adoption. Doctors and hospitals that jump
on board early will be rewarded, while those that fail to do so or move too
slowly will be fined. "We think that's going to have a tremendous impact,"
Alissa Fox, a Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association senior vice president
said at a briefing Friday at the group's Washington, D.C., headquarters

That is one good application for a secure tablet computer networking device.

Also I was watching Charlie Rose last Friday and he interviewed the founder of
Netscape Marc Andreessen and he said the next big thing in computers could be something
like the iphone only with a screen size of 7 to 8 inches.
