Nokia Siemens lands billion dollar order from China |
EE Times Europe (02/25/2009 10:25 AM EST)
MUNICH, Germany — Telecom equipment vendor Nokia Siemens Networks says it has booked orders from China Mobile and China Unicom for 2G and 3G mobile equipments and services valued at €880 million (about $1.12 billion).
Under the framework agreements, the Finno-German group will supply ECDMA networks for China Unicom in eleven provinces across China. In addition, the company will provide China Mobile with TD-SCMA and GSM networks. The agreement was signed during the visit of a China-Europe purchasing delegation currently visiting Germany. In order to ensure the successful commercial launch of 3G and its further network evolution to LTE, Nokia Siemens Networks says it has invested earlier in six R&D sites in China. In particular one of them, the Hangzhou High-Tech Software Park is said to have become an innovation base for advanced mobile communications technologies such as GSM/EDGE, WCDMA/HSPA, LTE and I-HSPA as well as Wimax. The equipment will be supplied in 2009, the company added. |
