Palm Pré 2 rumours gathering pace

Eos en route?

Just 24 hours after news broke about a possible Palm Pré 2 launch, Register Hardware’s discovered yet more information about the rumoured handset, including its name and a full specification list.

Palm's Eos will be an alternative to the Pré

Unconfirmed sources cited by Engadget claim to have discovered that the phone will be called Eos and measure somewhere in the region of 111 x 55 x 10.6mm. The yet-to-be-released Pré measures 100.5 x 59.5 x 16.9mm and has a slide-out keyboard which the Eos lacks.

Equipped with quad-band GSM and HSDPA 3G support, the Eos will also feature a 2.6in, 320 x 400 touchscreen.

It’s not been said if the display will support multi-touch, which the Pré does. As the Eos will be marketed as an alternative to the Pré, it’s possible that the phone will lack some of the Pré’s features, such as multi-touch.

A 2Mp camera will be built into the Eos and users should get 4GB of storage – integrated into the phone, presumably. Bluetooth 2.1 and a Micro USB port will be included for moving data around, but there’s no mention of an external storage card slot.

Assisted GPS will also be supported, as will MMS, a range of audio formats – including MP3 and AAC – and H.264 video. The phone’s battery is said to hold out for four hours of talk time.

As previously reported, the WebOS-based phone could hit the shops later this year. ®
