Mr. Soroko practices in the area of litigation, with particular emphasis on general business, corporate and securities matters, including the defense of securities and other class actions. He also practices in the areas of professional liability and real estate and probate litigation. Among many significant matters that Mr. Soroko has handled in his career, on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants, was his representation in 2006 of Pennsylvania judges before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, in which he secured a ruling that invalidated as unconstitutional legislation which had repealed a prior increase in judicial salaries. Mr. Soroko is listed in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business as a "Leader in Pennsylvania" and one of the leading lawyers in Pennsylvania in the areas of both general commercial litigation and securities litigation. He also is listed as a SuperLawyer in the area of commercial litigation by Law & Politics and Philadelphia magazines. Mr. Soroko was cited this year as one of the nation's "Top 500 Leading Lawyers" by Lawdragon magazine, which has also ranked him among the nation's "Top 500 Leading Litigators. Mr. Soroko was a member of the transition team for current Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett. Mr. Soroko is a 1977 graduate of New York University School of Law and a 1973 graduate of Haveford College.
After 10 years at the helm of Duane Morris, Sheldon Bonovitz has stepped down as chairman and handed over the reins to vice chairman and litigation department head John J. Soroko.

Soroko, 56, said the firm was well-known in the mid-Atlantic area in 1998, but now has offices across the country and in London, Singapore and Vietnam.Revenues have increased in the last 10 years from $70 million to $375 million for 2007.
"In the course of all this, Duane Morris has earned a wide reputation for innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship and forward thinking, in everything from our efficient firm administration and our ancillary businesses, to the design of our offices and, yes, our artwork," Soroko said Thursday in a response to Bonovitz's e-mail announcement to the firm that he was stepping down.

The 10-year mark, Soroko said in an interview, was a good breaking point for Bonovitz, who plans to stay active in the firm as chairman emeritus.

"My goal is to be helpful to John as he assumes the chairmanship, but certainly not be intrusive," Bonovitz said in the e-mail to the firm Thursday.

Soroko said he has had great training over the past few years at Bonovitz's side and doesn't anticipate any major changes in the way the firm will be run.
He said there are no immediate plans to name a new vice chairman -- a position that has only sometimes been filled within the firm.
While he will continue to advise clients and argue cases on appeal, Soroko said he doesn't plan on practicing full time.
