I'm 99.999999% certain they don't have to go to Markman. They're just complying with court requirements to file documents on time and proceeding toward the Markman and trial. They could still settle at any time IMO but will let LL give his expert opinion.

In the back corners of my mind (where no one dares travel...LOL), I like to think Samsung is waiting to see if EDIG will win a favorable Markman. If so and the patents are validated by a federal court, then they may offer to partner with or buy EDIG.
