My PhD in engineering from MIT clearly does not qualify me to be a lawyer, but I think it does speek to my ability to judge good arguments from bad agruments in just about any domain.

And of course, I also believe others even without a degree could be equaly skilled (and even better) at arguing their positions and interpretting others'.
