Duane Morris' New York Office Adds Intellectual Property Partner Stefan Grant, M.D.

August 5, 2009

NEW YORK, August 5, 2009—Duane Morris LLP is pleased to announce that Stefan C. Grant, M.D., has joined the firm as a partner in its New York office. Dr. Grant's arrival strengthens Duane Morris' Intellectual Property Practice Group and its growing New York office. Dr. Grant, a research and clinical oncologist, joins the firm from Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC.

Dr. Grant brings to Duane Morris his extensive experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and biopharmaceutical space. As a research and clinical oncologist, his medical background complements the firm's ability to serve clients in the life sciences industry. Currently, eight of the firm's 80 intellectual property lawyers have Ph.D.s.

Dr. Grant represents clients, including large and small biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, biomedical and pharmaceutical companies, as well as investment banks and venture capital groups, in pharmaceutical and biotechnology-related patent litigation in the United States and in Europe, including ANDA patent litigation. In addition, he brings added capability in intellectual property transactions, such as technology transfers, and the due diligence involved in licensing technology both to and from universities and biopharmaceutical companies.

Prior to joining Buchanan Ingersoll, Dr. Grant practiced law at Kenyon & Kenyon LLP. Dr. Grant was previously vice president and general counsel of Genta Incorporated, a NASDAQ-traded biopharmaceutical company that focused on cancer drug treatments. In that role, he evaluated business opportunities and negotiated acquisitions of technology, companies and license agreements. In addition, Dr. Grant managed the company's SEC and FDA issues. Dr. Grant was also previously an assistant professor of medicine at Weil Cornell Medical College and an attending physician at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, where he engaged in clinical and laboratory research, including spearheading the development of investigational vaccine therapies, while also managing a large clinical oncology practice.

Dr. Grant is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He is a Fellow of the American College of Legal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Grant has been honored by the American Cancer Society with a research grant and was the recipient of a National Institutes of Health immunology training grant. He has authored numerous book chapters and several dozen scientific papers and abstracts at international scientific meetings.

Dr. Grant earned his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 1998, and his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (B.S., M.D. equivalent), from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1981. He received an honorary M.D. in 1991 from University of the State of New York.
