We envision a future where portable digital devices will untether people from their desktops and give them anytime, anywhere global access to data, audio, music, books, email, still images, full motion video, and each other. Portability, convergence, and functionality will characterize the future trends of technology in these consumer-friendly devices, and users will interact with these devices using voice commands. e.Digital has a record of innovation in its field. e.Digital was the first to:

use removable flash memory cartridges in a handheld recording device

interface a portable voice recorder with a PC and the Internet using removable storage media

record and play back CD-quality music using CompactFlashTM storage media

Additional product innovations include:

the development of an advanced portable digital voice recorder and computer docking station of Lanier Worldwide, Inc.

the design for a portable digital music player featuring support for multiple music codecs and multiple Digital Rights Management Systems (DRMS’s)

The company has been granted five patents on its handheld recording systems, with additional patents under development. The current patents cover both hardware and software developed by the company. Patent-protected intellectual property includes handheld recording devices, e.Digital’s MicroOS file management system, the use of removable flash memory cartridges in a handheld device, and their streamlined methods for recording and editing files in portable systems.


e.Digital offers a full menu of services ranging from the licensing of e.Digital’s multi-patented MicroOSTM file management system to custom software and hardware development, design and manufacturing.

The company has developed products for Lanier Worldwide, Inc. e.Digital has also designed a secure, portable Internet music player with Lucent Technologies. In January, the Internet music player design was licensed by Maycom Company, Ltd., a turnkey manufacturer of digital audio and radio communication products with annual sales target of approximately $30 million, and exports of over $10 million in 1999.

e.Digital has developed an advanced portable digital voice recorder and computer docking station for Lanier Worldwide Inc., one of the world's largest providers of document management solutions, services and support. The product, called "Cquence Mobile", is part of Lanier's sophisticated "Cquence" medical document management system.

e.Digital was selected by Intel to design and prototype a number of portable digital voice recorders utilizing advanced speech-to-text and text-to-speech technologies. Intel plans to sub-license the reference design created by e.Digital to Intel's OEM customers, referring them back to e.Digital for licensing and any additional design and/or manufacturing work required.

The company has an ongoing contract with Adamlab--a subsidiary of Wayne County, Michigan, Regional Educational Service Agency--to provide voice recorder daughter boards for Adamlab's SuperHawk Voice Output Communication Aid (VOCA). VOCA is a computer system designed to aid speech-impaired students, both children and adults.
