The only reason I can see that SAMSUNG'S "Settlement" is NOT going to be an outright "Buy Out" relates to Samsung's Obligations?...

Aside from Samsung reaching an agreement with DM who is an interested party in any transaction between EDIG and Samsung, we know of Samsungs "Obligation" that is related to their agreemnt with SanDisk , and any other such agreements they have with others who may be of the List of 174 infringers...

It would present numerous "Legal" complications if Samsung as owner of EDIG patents would sue SanDisk for infringment of their acquired patents, and refuse to perform under their agreement extended over years to purchase products from Samsung...

I wrote about this couple of weeks ago noting that SAMSUNG would probably take a "STAKE" in EDIG for now, and enter into some cross licensing with them permitting EDIG to continue with its IP monetiztion, and becoming a viable and competative player in the FLASH MARKETS utilizing SAMSUNG'S Manufactuing capcity, with the undending that they may be a whllu subsidiat of SAMSUNG in the future...

On the otherhand assuming the "obligations" were limited to DM and SanDisk, then Samsung could certainly negotiate with SanDisk to buy out the rest of the agreement from them and promnising not to nring don the Sword of DEMOCLS on them in the immediate future, (the next round of the law suits to be filed)...

We will know in couple of weeks the most...
