Samsung to report big Q3 sales increase

SAN FRANCISCO—South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. said Tuesday (Oct. 6) it expects to report third quarter sales of approximately 36 trillion won ($30.8 billion) and an operating profit of roughly 4.1 trillion won ($3.5 billion).

For the second quarter of this year, Samsung (Seoul) reported a profit of 2.52 trillion won ($2.2 billion) on sales of 32.51 trillion won ($27.9 billion).

According to a Bloomberg report, analysts expect that the profitability of Samsung's semiconductor division likely increased more than fivefold in the third quarter compared to the second quarter. Analysts surveyed by Bloomberg expect Samsung to report a chip business profit of about 960 billion won ($821.3 million), according to the report.
