Message: In memory of LL

I'm actually responding to Gil's post with Dischino's header and reacting to PTSCer's claim "...there is no buyout or large settlement." and adding in my 7 cents! Got that?

I'm on the fence wavering back and forth as to how the settlement with Samsung will be resolved. I do think whatever the outcome it will be significant. I'm not convinced we will have an announcement divulging details unless it's in both companies interests. I am certain Duane Morris will file on additional infringers. It just doesn't make sense that they would cut and run at this stage of the process. Whether they are working for eDigital or Samsung it still represents easy money to them.

The point I wanted to make is a recollection of what happened when Ricoh bought out Lanier. I believe that happened in 1999. Larier was trading for .50 cents / share one day and was bought out by Ricoh the next morning for $3.00 / share. No one knew it was being negotiated. There was no escalation of the share price. Putnam didn't have a clue. I remember talking with him the next day and he talked admiringly of how they had kept the lid on that. I think most people assume that a buy out can't happen without it leaking and affecting the shareprice. Well it does happen and it did in the case of Lanier/ Ricoh. I'm not suggesting that thats whats going to happen, just that I wouldn't write it off based on reading the share price tea leaves.
