Possibly of interest re: Samsung

Samsung has recently introduced its first self-branded memory cards with a release in Taiwan. The cards are meant for use in smartphones, digital cameras and other portable consumer electronics. Samsung claims it's entering the market as the market for mobile storage space is expected to grow exponentially in the near future, according to research.

The new Samsung cards will be available in SD, microSD and Compact Flash (CF) formats, and the SD parts are claimed to run at class 6 (6MBps) speeds. They will be available in 4GB and 8GB capacities. A 16GB SD card will wear a Plus badge. They will be able to read at 17MBps, with the CF cards rated at 45MBps read speeds.

Samsung will brand its own memory cards, in contrast to what it has been doing in the past, by selling memory cards it made to third parties.

Pricing has not been announced, though the cards will go on sale in Taiwan in October. Sales in other markets are expected to follow soon.
