Even More Stuff We Liked!

To keep the WAEA flame alive we again cover people, products, and services you may have missed, we present another walk down the show floor.

While Fred Faulk (eDigital Prez) smile is almost as big as the latest 8” eVU portable entertainment player. Now the eDigital folks are offering Early Window content as well as 20+ hours of battery life, the latest eVU offers a customizable GUI and a new touchscreen option. With 160 GB of hard disk storage one could think of the new eVU as a long haul entertainment solution... it looks like the plane will run out of gas before the battery does. We bet the next generation will do away with the buttons! >www.inflightcanada.com

Goodrich (Teac) showed us their new VCU and if you did not remember, Goodrich Corp acquired Teac Aerospace Holdings last year. Shown here is the TEAC VE-801SS video reproducer unit (VRU) with solid-state memory. It is capable of playing back MPEG2 from the solid state memory module or directly from the DVD drive allowing airlines to use pre-encoded video material. Ideal for aircraft retrofit, the footprint of the 801SS is the same as the old analog players it replaces and we understand it is a plug-and-play replacement for the earlier VCU's. The dual language device (two stereo audio outputs) can also function as a high-speed data loader and download content from front-loaded DVDs to the solid state memory in the background. Described as a “humongous data storage device”, we wondered if there were other novel uses for this cool product... like EFB or map storage, or perhaps, even flight data?
