I cited that wiki definition for its tendency to illustrate that patent-licensing revenue might be recognized on a timeline apart from its actual payment or receipt.
"Revenue from permission to use company’s assets (e.g. interests for using money, rent for using fixed assets, and royalties for using intangible assets) is recognized as time passes or as assets are used."
To any extent that Samsung's payment accounts for future uses of e.Digital's intellectual property, parts of the payment might be recognized as revenue over future fiscal periods.
Again, I e-mailed Mr. Putnam. He responded courteously. But he could not add to what already has been published.
Best wishes,
John
