Since passengers are a captive audience during flight, airlines must find ways to entertain them, thus creating customer loyalty. In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) can take different forms and ranges from published magazines to having the power of an actual PC at your seat. The latter type of IFE is called Interactive IFE. Although interactivity is relatively new and not yet as popular as the other types of IFE (Overhead Video, Distributed Audio, etc), airlines can already see the potential of these new systems and are now investing more and more into their interactive systems. With Interactive IFE, passengers now have their own screen and have access to a wide variety of content, such as video, audio, duty-free applications, Infotainment, games and more.

Since each passenger can now have access to the functionalities of a PC at their seat, one of the main goals is to provide to the passenger value-added content that will maximize the power of these new interactive systems. This value-added content now becomes a differentiating factor for airlines that can now see the revenue generating possibilities of these new interactive IFE systems.

The next step will be to allow the passenger to surf on the Internet.
