Shares of TiVo
Inc. rose about 50 percent Thursday in the wake of an
appeals court ruling that Dish
Network Corp. and EchoStar
Corp. are infringing its patents.
Alviso-based TiVo (NASDAQ:TIVO) was at $14.98 in midday trading after
rising as high as $16.39 during the day's trading.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit on Thursday upheld a
finding by a lower court that Dish and EchoStar must stop selling
digital video-recording products.
The two companies said earlier they avoided infringement by changing
their technology slightly, but TiVo complained that the changes the
companies made were not enough.
In 2006 TiVo won a first ruling of patent infringement by Dish.
